BEIJING, March 7 — China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi strongly criticized the United States today for its approach to trade tariffs, warning that unjustified restrictions could plunge the world into chaos and a survival-of-the-fittest mentality.
Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of China’s “Two Sessions” political meetings, Wang accused Washington of undermining global cooperation, particularly after Beijing’s efforts to combat the fentanyl crisis in the US.
“One should not repay kindness with resentment, let alone impose tariffs without justification,” Wang asserted.
He cautioned that if every nation prioritized its own interests above all else, disregarding diplomacy and fair negotiations, international relations could devolve into a brutal “law of the jungle.”
“There are nearly 190 countries in the world,” Wang said. “If each one pursues power and status above mutual respect and cooperation, global stability will be at risk.”
Addressing the ongoing war in Ukraine, Wang reiterated China’s stance on peace, urging negotiations to resolve the conflict.
“Conflict has no winners, and peace has no losers,” he stated, emphasizing that China welcomes and supports all efforts aimed at ending the crisis.
His remarks come as tensions rise between Beijing and Washington, with the Biden administration pursuing policies that China perceives as a challenge to the established global order. — AFP
