Malaysian Employers Applaud Socso Amnesty Extension: A Win for Workers and Businesses

PETALING JAYA, May 17 – There’s a wave of relief and gratitude sweeping through Malaysian businesses as the government extends the Socso Amnesty Programme until May 31. Employers are not just breathing easier—they’re stepping up with renewed commitment to protecting their workforce.

The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) hailed the extension as a timely move that supports both employers and employees. “This is more than just an extension of a policy; it’s a second chance to do the right thing,” said MEF president Datuk Dr. Syed Hussain Syed Husman in a heartfelt statement.

Thanks to the amnesty—which waives penalties, compounds, and late payment charges—businesses across the country have collectively saved RM100 million. But beyond the numbers, the impact is deeply human. Over 220,000 employers have come forward during the programme’s initial run from April 1 to April 30, ensuring their workers are now rightfully covered.

More importantly, this effort has brought one million additional workers under the protection of Socso, reinforcing the nation’s social safety net.

“Protecting workers isn’t just about following rules—it’s about taking care of our people,” said Syed Hussain. “When we protect them, we build a stronger, more resilient future for all.”

He urged employers not to see the amnesty as just a break from penalties, but as a call to action—to register their workers, fulfil their obligations, and embrace their role in shaping a fair and secure workplace for every Malaysian.

As the new May 31 deadline approaches, the message from MEF is clear: there’s still time to step up, make things right, and be part of a better future for Malaysia’s workforce.
