PERTH, March 26 – British Airways is making a much-anticipated return to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), resuming daily flights between London Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur starting April 2, 2025, according to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
The airline will operate its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the route, marking a significant milestone in the UK flag carrier’s revival of services to Malaysia.
Strong Demand Fuels Expansion Hopes
MAHB’s Senior General Manager of Strategy, Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin, revealed that British Airways is highly optimistic about the Malaysian market, driven by strong ticket sales and high load factors ahead of the relaunch.
“We had a great discussion with the British Airways team, and they are very excited. Sales are strong, and load factors look promising,” he said at the Routes Asia 2025 event in Perth, Australia.
He further hinted at the potential for increased flight frequencies, saying, “If demand continues to grow, we may see additional flights in the next two years.”
Strengthening KLIA’s Position as a European Hub
British Airways’ return aligns with MAHB’s broader strategy to attract more European carriers, particularly Oneworld alliance members. KLIA currently hosts Malaysia Airlines, Japan Airlines, and Cathay Pacific under the Oneworld network.
Efforts are also underway to bring in Finnair and Iberia, alongside non-Oneworld carriers from Germany, Switzerland, France, and Italy, further strengthening KLIA’s role as a key hub for European connectivity.
