BANGKOK – What began as a routine journey for 156 passengers aboard Air India flight AI 379 quickly turned into a tense and emotional ordeal on Friday morning, after a bomb threat forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Thailand.
The flight, which had taken off from the popular holiday destination of Phuket at 9:30 AM local time en route to New Delhi, was mid-air when the threat was reported onboard. The plane, instead of continuing on its course to India, circled over the Andaman Sea before safely returning to Phuket International Airport.
Airport authorities immediately sprang into action. Emergency protocols were activated as the aircraft landed safely back on the island. Passengers, some visibly shaken and confused, were guided off the plane with care and caution by airport staff and security personnel.
An official from Airports of Thailand (AOT) confirmed the incident, stating that all 156 passengers were safely escorted from the plane in accordance with emergency procedures. While the nature and origin of the threat remain undisclosed, authorities are treating the situation with utmost seriousness.
For many passengers, what started as a normal day turned into a frightening experience—a stark reminder of how suddenly plans can change. Loved ones of those onboard waited anxiously for updates, while aviation and security teams carried out thorough inspections and investigations.
As of now, Air India and Thai authorities have yet to release further details on the threat. Investigations are ongoing.
What remains clear is that quick thinking, coordinated efforts, and calm from the crew and airport staff ensured everyone returned safely to the ground.
