The Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, has sanctioned an advance release of ₹20 crore as the second instalment of the Central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the financial year 2025–26, specifically for Nagaland.
This crucial financial support comes as part of the Centre’s commitment to aid immediate relief efforts for families and communities affected by heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides triggered by this year’s intense southwest monsoon.
In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reaffirmed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Amit Shah, the Central Government continues to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with state governments during times of natural disasters, offering not just financial assistance, but also logistical and operational support when it’s needed most.
During the ongoing financial year, the Centre has already released a significant ₹15,554 crore to 27 states under SDRF and an additional ₹2,267.44 crore to 15 states under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). Furthermore, ₹4,571.30 crore has been distributed through the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 21 states, and ₹372.09 crore via the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine states.
Beyond financial support, the Centre has ensured rapid logistical assistance, mobilizing the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with units from the Army and Air Force, to deliver relief materials, conduct rescues, and evacuate affected citizens. Notably, this year’s monsoon saw the largest-ever deployment of 199 NDRF teams across 30 States and Union Territories, emphasizing the Centre’s proactive disaster management approach.
At the heart of these efforts lies a simple truth — when disaster strikes, unity and timely action save lives. The release of these funds is not just an administrative step; it is a gesture of solidarity, compassion, and resilience. It reflects India’s growing strength in disaster preparedness, and its unwavering promise to ensure that no citizen faces a crisis alone.
