Delhi Airport Faces Major Flight Disruptions as Dense Fog Grounds 79 Flights

Dense fog continued to severely impact flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday, leading to the cancellation of at least 79 flights, including several international services, officials confirmed.

According to data from flight-tracking website Flightradar24, more than 230 flights were delayed during the morning hours. Departures were hit particularly hard, with passengers facing an average delay of nearly 49 minutes as low visibility conditions persisted across the region.

Airport authorities stated that flight operations were being carried out under CAT III conditions, which allow aircraft to land and take off in extremely poor visibility but still come with limitations. While both arrivals and departures remained operational, disruptions and delays were unavoidable.

In a post shared on X, Delhi Airport operator Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) said that dense fog continued to affect schedules and urged passengers to stay updated with their respective airlines. The airport, which is India’s busiest and typically handles around 1,300 flights daily, has been operating under intense pressure due to weather conditions.

Expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to travelers, DIAL assured that on-ground teams are actively coordinating with airlines and other stakeholders to assist passengers and ensure smooth movement across all terminals.

For thousands of travelers, the situation meant long waits, rescheduled plans, and a test of patience. Yet amid the disruption, airport staff continued working around the clock to manage the situation, reminding passengers that safety remains the top priority during such challenging weather conditions.
