Ahmedabad, India – In a move that could etch India’s name into global sporting history, a high-level Indian delegation has officially presented its proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, marking the centenary edition of the prestigious event.
The proposal was made in London to the Evaluation Committee of Commonwealth Sport, with the delegation led by Gujarat’s Minister of Sports Harsh Sanghavi and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha. The Gujarat government released a statement highlighting the significance and readiness of the host city, Ahmedabad.
“This is not just a bid — it’s a vision,” said Minister Sanghavi. “Hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad would be a proud milestone not only for Gujarat but for the entire nation. These Games can become a powerful catalyst to energize India’s youth, drive us closer to Viksit Bharat 2047, and strengthen the Commonwealth spirit for the next 100 years.”
The proposal emphasizes a compact and efficient Games model, centred around state-of-the-art international venues, a robust transportation network, and world-class accommodation — all contributing to a seamless and inclusive experience for athletes and spectators alike.
Crucially, the bid aligns with the Games Reset principles, focusing on:
-
Affordability & Sustainability
-
Inclusivity & Accessibility
-
Gender Equity & Para-sport Integration
-
Human Rights Protection & Long-Term Legacy
P.T. Usha echoed the sentiment, stating, “India’s bid is not only about our capabilities. It’s about our values. Ahmedabad is ready to carry forward the baton from Glasgow 2026 and set the stage for 2034. The centenary Games in India will honour the past while boldly shaping the future of Commonwealth Sport.”
The proposal is being supported strongly by the Government of India, the Gujarat State Government, and the Commonwealth Games Association of India, underlining a unified commitment to deliver Games that are truly global, inclusive, and impactful.
