Kolkata, May 19 — In a heartfelt show of solidarity and hope, nearly 100 travel agencies from Kolkata have come together to launch the ‘Chalo Kashmir’ campaign — a people-driven movement to revive Kashmir’s tourism industry and restore the region’s image after the recent distressing incident in Pahalgam.
These travel professionals, who annually guide over 400,000 domestic travelers — with about 40,000 heading to Kashmir — are now standing firmly with the Valley, not just as business stakeholders but as fellow citizens who believe in the spirit, beauty, and resilience of Kashmir.
“Enough of the fear,” says one of the campaign organizers. “Kashmir is not just a destination, it’s a feeling — a place of breathtaking landscapes and warm-hearted people. It’s time we remind everyone of that.”
The campaign is more than just a tourism push. It’s a message — loud and clear — that Kashmir should not be defined by isolated tragedies or fear-mongering. It is a call to travelers across India to look beyond the headlines and experience the real Kashmir: its stunning valleys, its culture, and most importantly, its people whose livelihoods depend on tourism.
Through this united front, Kolkata’s travel community is sending a powerful message of national unity and emotional support. More partners and voices from around the country are expected to join the initiative in the coming days.
In the words of another organizer, “We’re not just promoting travel; we’re healing through connection, compassion, and courage. Let’s all say it together — Chalo Kashmir.”
