KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that no Malaysians were affected by the deadly attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on Tuesday, April 22.
In a statement issued on Wednesday (April 23), Wisma Putra assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation, particularly through the High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi.
Pahalgam, a well-known tourist destination in southern Kashmir, was rocked by an attack that left at least 26 people dead, including several foreign tourists. The region is a popular spot for Malaysian travelers, which prompted concerns about the safety of its nationals.
According to Wisma Putra, the latest reports from authorities confirmed that no Malaysians were harmed in the attack. The High Commission has been in direct contact with Malaysian tour group leaders who are currently in Kashmir, all of whom have reported that their groups are safe.
The tragic attack saw gunmen open fire on tourists, and the authorities have described it as one of the most devastating incidents in recent memory. While most of the victims were Indian nationals, the full details on the victims’ identities are still being confirmed.
The Foreign Ministry has emphasized that it is working closely with local authorities to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of all Malaysians in the area.
It has also urged Malaysians in Kashmir to remain vigilant, follow local guidelines, and take all necessary precautions.
