Security Heightened Ahead of India-South Africa Test in Kolkata

Kolkata is gearing up for an electrifying cricket showdown as the India-South Africa Test match is set to begin on Friday at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium. In anticipation of the high-profile event, Kolkata Police have ramped up security across the city, particularly around the stadium and its surrounding areas, ensuring a safe environment for players and fans alike.

A senior police officer confirmed that comprehensive security arrangements are now in place. “We have strengthened protection for both teams, including secure travel between their hotels and practice venues. The heightened security will remain in force throughout the five days of the match,” he said.

Fans should also note that Kolkata Police have issued an extensive traffic advisory to manage movement in and around the Maidan—a sprawling green space in the heart of the city—and Eden Gardens from November 14 to 18. The advisory includes a ban on all goods vehicles between 7 am and 7 pm on match days in and around the stadium zone.

Public transport routes have been modified to ease congestion, and police have stressed that traffic and security guidelines may be adjusted in real-time depending on crowd movement and other conditions.

Cricket enthusiasts can now enjoy the thrill of the game with the assurance that their safety is a top priority, as Kolkata combines its love for sports with meticulous planning and vigilance.
