PETALING JAYA: Chinese President Xi Jinping touched down in Kuala Lumpur with more than just official protocols on his agenda—he arrived with heartfelt memories and a sincere hope to usher in a renewed era of friendship between China and Malaysia.
Xi, who is in the country for a three-day state visit, expressed a deep personal connection to Malaysia, recalling his first state visit 12 years ago. “Coming back today fills me with warmth,” he said with genuine affection. “On behalf of the Chinese government and people, I wish to extend sincere greetings and best wishes to the government and people of Malaysia.”
This visit is not just about meetings and formalities. Xi emphasized that he hopes to deepen the long-standing bond between the two nations—strengthening trust, boosting cooperation, and envisioning what he warmly referred to as “another 50 golden years” of partnership.
During his stay, Xi will sit down for meaningful discussions with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. These talks will cover not only bilateral relations but also pressing regional and global issues that matter to both countries.
“With our joint efforts, I am confident this will be a fruitful visit,” Xi remarked. “Together, we will open up a new chapter in our good neighbourly ties and mutually beneficial cooperation.”
Xi described China and Malaysia as “good neighbours linked by sea,” bound not just by geography but by a “millennium-old traditional friendship.” He highlighted the mutual respect that has marked the relationship since diplomatic ties began more than 50 years ago, making the bond between the two countries a model of international partnership.
Last year, China and Malaysia celebrated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and agreed to build a “community with a shared future.” Xi believes this collaboration is not just beneficial to the two nations but also essential for peace and prosperity in the region and beyond.
Landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 6.48pm, Xi was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Anwar, symbolizing the strong personal and political ties that continue to grow between these two nations.
As Xi’s visit unfolds, it’s clear that this is more than diplomacy—it’s a reunion of old friends and a renewed promise to walk hand-in-hand into the future.
