In a recent update, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have introduced revised hand baggage regulations to enhance security and streamline airport procedures. As passenger traffic continues to rise, these changes are designed to improve efficiency and minimize delays. Here’s everything you need to know about the new hand baggage rules:
- One Piece of Hand Baggage per Passenger: Under the new rules, passengers are now permitted to carry only one piece of hand baggage per flight, applicable to both domestic and international flights. If you have more than one bag, additional luggage must be checked in.
- Weight Limits by Class of Travel: Weight limits for hand luggage vary depending on your travel class:
- Economy & Premium Economy: One piece of hand baggage up to 7 kg.
- First & Business Class: One piece of hand baggage up to 10 kg.
- Size Restrictions for Hand Baggage: To ensure smooth security checks, there are strict size restrictions for hand luggage. The maximum dimensions allowed are:
- Height: 55 cm (21.6 inches)
- Length: 40 cm (15.7 inches)
- Width: 20 cm (7.8 inches) Be sure your bag fits within these dimensions to avoid delays.
- Exemptions for Tickets Booked Before May 2, 2024: Passengers who booked flights before May 2, 2024, will enjoy certain exemptions:
- Economy Class: Up to 8 kg of hand baggage.
- Premium Economy: Up to 10 kg of hand baggage.
- First & Business Class: Up to 12 kg of hand baggage.
- New Regulations Effective After May 2, 2024: Any tickets booked after May 2, 2024, will be subject to the updated hand baggage limits, regardless of the travel class. The new weight and size restrictions will apply to all passengers.
- Improved Security and Reduced Congestion: These new baggage rules are designed to speed up the security process and reduce airport congestion. With fewer bags to inspect, security checks will be faster, and the overall airport experience will become more efficient.
- Plan Ahead to Avoid Issues: It’s more crucial than ever to pack wisely. Ensure your cabin bag is light, compact, and adheres to the specified weight and size limits to avoid delays or inconvenience during check-in and security.
