Tourism Malaysia has set its sights high for 2025—with a bold target of welcoming 45 million visitors to our beautiful country. And for Director-General Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, this isn’t just a dream—it’s a vision backed by growing momentum and a strong sense of possibility.
“We saw 38 million visitors last year alone,” Datuk Manoharan shared with optimism. “And as of February this year, we’ve already welcomed 6.7 million tourists—a 31.3% increase compared to the same time last year. This tells us something powerful: people are coming, and they want to experience what Malaysia has to offer.”
Countries like Singapore, China, and India are among the top contributors to this surge. But the journey towards 45 million will require more than good numbers—it’ll take teamwork, creativity, and commitment from every corner of the tourism sector.
During an engagement session with tourism players in Kelantan on Sunday (April 20), Datuk Manoharan highlighted the importance of collaboration with state governments and local businesses to bring Malaysia’s unique charm to the global stage. Also present was Datuk Kamarudin Md Nor, chairman of Kelantan’s tourism, culture, arts, and heritage committee.
“This session wasn’t just a meeting—it was a meaningful exchange,” he said. “We talked about the many initiatives available to help our local industry grow—from aviation and charter grants, to travel incentives, and support for cultural events. The goal is simple: to lift every part of Malaysia up, together.”
He noted that Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan have been less active in applying for available tourism grants compared to states like Selangor, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang—a gap he hopes to help close.
“There’s so much untapped potential here,” he said warmly. “And we’re here to support you—whether you’re a local artisan, a cultural performer, or a tour operator. These grants and support schemes exist to help your ideas shine and bring more people to experience the heart of Malaysia.”
As preparations gear up for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026), the message is clear: the road to 45 million tourists is one we walk together, celebrating the culture, creativity, and community spirit that makes Malaysia truly unforgettable.
