Iran has responded to the recent stalled discussions with the United States in Islamabad, stating that the lack of progress was not unexpected and that no realistic observer anticipated an agreement in a single round of talks.
According to Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, expectations of a quick breakthrough were never part of the diplomatic reality. Speaking to state broadcaster IRIB, he emphasized that negotiations of such complexity require time, patience, and continued dialogue rather than immediate conclusions.
“Naturally, from the beginning we should not have expected to reach an agreement in a single session. No one had such an expectation,” Baqaei stated, reinforcing Tehran’s position that the talks were always going to be a gradual process rather than a one-step resolution.
Despite the lack of immediate results in Islamabad, Iran signaled that diplomatic communication channels remain open. Baqaei expressed confidence that engagement with Pakistan and other regional partners will continue, suggesting that broader regional diplomacy remains a priority for Tehran even as US discussions face delays.
While the talks did not produce a breakthrough, Iranian officials framed the outcome as part of a longer diplomatic journey rather than a setback, indicating that future rounds of engagement are still possible.
