Srinagar, August 28 – As relentless rains continue to lash the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, bringing flood-like conditions to several regions, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has taken the responsible step of suspending all scheduled meetings of its House Committees until September 5, 2025.
The Assembly Secretariat, acknowledging the growing emergency, issued a formal notification announcing the decision. With administrative forces stretched thin and focused on rescue, relief, and damage control efforts, it has become necessary to halt legislative committee operations to allow all hands to support the people and emergency response on the ground.
“In view of the prevailing inclement weather conditions in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and the consequent flood-like situation reported in various areas… it has been decided that all scheduled meetings of the House Committees, Financial Committees, and other Committees of the Legislative Assembly stand postponed/cancelled till the 5th of September, 2025,” the Secretariat stated in an official notification.
This move reflects the Assembly’s recognition of the gravity of the situation and its solidarity with the people and frontline workers facing the brunt of the crisis. As water levels continue to rise, and many families are being relocated to safer areas, the focus has rightly shifted from governance proceedings to ground-level action and support.
The Assembly urges the public to remain alert, follow safety advisories, and cooperate with emergency services. This temporary pause in legislative business is a crucial gesture of unity and prioritization in the face of nature’s fury.
