KUALA LUMPUR, August 24 — In anticipation of Malaysia’s 68th Merdeka (Independence Day) celebrations, the airspace surrounding Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will be temporarily closed daily from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM between August 26 and August 31, 2025.
In response to this closure, Malaysia Airlines has announced adjustments to its flight schedules. The airline has retimed several departures and arrivals during this six-day period. Passengers flying to or from KLIA are strongly encouraged to arrive at the airport at least four hours earlier than their revised departure time to ensure smooth check-in, documentation checks, and security clearance.
“Given the revised flight operations, we urge all travellers to stay informed and plan their journey with extra time,” Malaysia Airlines stated on its official website.
While a full list of affected flights is available on their site, the airline did not disclose the total number of impacted services. However, they continue to stress the importance of preparing ahead — especially for those with connecting flights or time-sensitive plans.
Travellers are also reminded to double-check their travel documents and confirm entry and exit requirements with relevant authorities before flying.
This temporary change is in place to accommodate aerial activities and ensure safety during Malaysia’s national celebrations. While the schedule shift may be an inconvenience, it is part of a larger national moment of pride and unity.
Let’s all work together, plan ahead, and celebrate Merdeka safely — in the air and on the ground.
