Kuwait says its air defence systems are responding to an Iranian missile and drone attack, marking another escalation in the rapidly widening conflict across the Middle East.
Kuwait’s army said its forces were actively engaging what it described as hostile missiles and drones after Iran launched attacks targeting US military positions and facilities used by Washington’s allies in the region.
The latest developments come after Iran targeted US bases and military interests in Kuwait, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq and the autonomous Kurdistan region.
In a statement shared on X, Kuwait’s army said its air defences were responding to the attacks and described the Iranian action as aggression against the country.
Iranian state television also confirmed that Iranian forces were targeting US bases in Kuwait, saying the strikes were carried out in response to what Tehran described as US attacks against the Iranian people.
The situation has become increasingly tense following extensive US bombardment of targets across Iran. Tehran has responded by widening its military actions against American interests and US-aligned countries across the region.
The escalation has also been fueled by reports of civilian casualties. Iran’s Red Crescent said a US strike on Tuesday killed four people, including a child, at a wedding in southern Iran. More than 50 people were reportedly injured in the incident.
The United States did not directly address the reported wedding strike. Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for US Central Command, said the US military does not target civilians and contrasted Washington’s position with that of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The latest round of fighting follows US strikes against Iranian targets on Sunday, marking the first known American attacks on Iran in several weeks.
For people across the region, the growing exchange of missiles and drones is more than another headline. It is a reminder of how quickly military confrontation can cross borders and place civilians, businesses and communities in the middle of a much larger geopolitical crisis.
