The British government has announced new efforts to support its citizens living across the Gulf region, where around 300,000 British nationals currently reside.
Speaking to Sky News, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper explained that London is putting systems in place to help British travelers and residents should the situation worsen.
“We are exploring all options, working closely with the travel industry and preparing for government-assisted evacuations if necessary,” Cooper said.
To make this happen, the UK is sending rapid deployment teams to the Gulf. Their role will be to coordinate with airlines, travel operators, and local authorities so that Britons can get support quickly and safely.
Cooper also made it clear that officials are urging for airspace to be reopened, which would make travel and potential evacuations easier.
At the heart of this effort, the UK government wants to ensure that British nationals in the region have clear guidance, support, and reassurance, particularly those who may be worried about their safety as events continue to unfold.
