Traffic Comes to a Standstill in Kuala Lumpur as 'Turun Anwar' Protest Grows

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 – What started as a small gathering quickly transformed into a massive demonstration, paralyzing traffic along Jalan Dang Wangi as thousands of Malaysians flooded the streets in protest against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.

Dressed mostly in black, the protestors congregated in front of Sogo supermarket and the iconic Pertama Complex. Their presence wasn’t just a show of numbers—it sent a loud, collective message. The chants were clear, the banners striking, and the emotion in the air was undeniable: disappointment, frustration, and a plea for change.

Among the crowd, familiar political figures like Pasir Puteh MP Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh passionately addressed the sea of demonstrators. He didn’t mince words—accusing the Prime Minister of breaking promises and warning that these perceived failures are deterring investors and slowing Malaysia’s economic momentum.

On the sidewalks, small-time vendors sold black T-shirts printed with phrases like “Turun Anwar” (Step Down Anwar), “Subsidi Hapus” (Subsidies Abolished), and “Mungkir Janji” (Broken Promises). It’s not just merchandise—it’s a manifestation of public sentiment.

The crowd continued to grow as the day progressed, with many slowly making their way toward Dataran Merdeka, where a larger convergence was anticipated. According to PAS Youth coordinators, a symbolic march was scheduled for 1pm, further intensifying the scale and visibility of the protest.

Despite the scale of the demonstration and the heavy police presence, the protest remained peaceful. But the message is clear—many Malaysians are no longer willing to remain silent. They’re not just protesting. They’re pleading for accountability.
