China Reaffirms Its Stance on Taiwan Amid Trump’s Comments: A Push for ‘Peaceful Reunification’

Beijing, August 18 – China has once again voiced its strong commitment to the peaceful reunification of Taiwan, making it clear that the island remains a deeply sensitive and non-negotiable issue for Beijing. The comments came in response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent claim that Chinese President Xi Jinping had assured him there would be no invasion of Taiwan during Trump’s tenure.

In an interview with Fox News last Friday, Trump shared that during a phone call, Xi Jinping had said China would not take any military action against Taiwan while Trump was still in office. This revelation quickly made headlines across the globe, stirring political reactions and raising questions about cross-strait tensions.

On Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed the matter in a routine press briefing. “We are willing to make the greatest efforts with the utmost sincerity to strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification,” she stated firmly. Mao reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and no external force or individual will ever be allowed to separate it — in any form.

The message is clear: while China speaks of peace and dialogue, it stands firm on its national sovereignty and unity. The underlying tone carries a familiar duality — open to conversation, but unwilling to compromise on core interests.

As global eyes remain focused on the region, this reminder from Beijing serves as a powerful reinforcement of its longstanding policy: that Taiwan is, and always will be, part of its territorial integrity.
